In Kate’s lecture, we explored our methods for producing work as well as situating our practice among other artists and researchers.
‘Reflect in a blogpost on your existing ways of working, and what these practices produce for you in terms of both opportunities and dilemmas in reference to your own portfolio project work-in-progress.’
I used this lesson in order to understand where my desire to produce creative work comes from. Here are the notes i collected during the session regarding other practitioners methods for producing work:
Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe
- Describes process/journey of deciding on using synth with voice. Explains importance of cohesiveness and dialogue in work.
- ‘Widening vernacular’ is important in creating engaging work and not getting stuck in a loop.
- Missed out talking about influences.
Anne Hardy
- Describes process, how there is no real structure in her day
- ‘Very much about process’, can’t be delegated to somebody else as the choices are very intuitive
- Talks about the materials / spaces used, practical context behind projects
- Very in depth.
- By not answering why, there’s an ambiguity regarding words issues.
Maria Chavez (turntablist)
- Describes influences through movements, eg hip hop
- ‘Involuntary sampling.
- Depth / choice
Context is sphere of community on artistic journey. Forms part of your work in ways which can generate ideas and directions. Can be very productive through out entire career.
